A home is many things, it is a feeling and it is a reflection of those who reside there. Recently we were invited to the newly built home of Mary Cane, co-owner of Courtney and Morris Real Estate, in Point Clear. Mary is someone with deep roots in Mobile Bay, fun loving and truly friends with every person in town; what some people would refer to as “salt of the earth”. We were thrilled to come along with the key players who created her new abode to celebrate it’s completion. The home’s design is a classic take on a dogtrot where an open plan from front to back is perfect for casual entertaining, life is at the center of the home, and the openness fosters a oneness with the outdoor. The roofline from the outside boasts what you would think was a typical Gulf Coast low profile cottage, but then you walk inside the front door and are taken by surprise by the spacious interior.

It was a wonderful time working on this home for Mary and her husband Grey because I have been friends with them for many years. They are the most genuine, down to earth people. Grey simply asked me do what ever makes her happy and Mary really didn’t put a lot of perimeters on it. The confidence that gave me throughout this process by trusting and respecting me as a professional really inspired me. I knew it was about friends about family and being casual and enjoying their life. It was about creating a home that cradles memories not monuments in mortar or architectural gimmicks of the latest trends in design. It’s understated and exuberant in the best way.
